One HIV patient's little sister

Posted in Group:

So ok I know from the title you maybe thinking I'm young, well actually I'm 33yrs old. I just found out this past wednesday that my older brother was told he is HIV positive. I have been preparing for this for quite some time unfortunitly. My brother had about a 7yr run with IV drugs(meth), and with that he had numerous sexual encounters with partners he can't even tell you their names. He does admit that he feels he got HIV from sharing needles. He luckily is clean at the moment, and I'm so glad he was with family when he found out because if he wasn't I know he would've gone out to end it all. He found this out right before he was to embark on a life changing experience over seas. I'm happy to say that he has a friend there that also is HIV positive, so at least he won't be alone. I love my brother, and have always supported him even when he told the family he was gay(unfortunitly others were not). My mother and myself will always be there to help him through the times he is about to face. I guess I'm writing this just to say what I feel I need to say, and possibly get some encouraging words. I have always looked up to him over the years, and when it was time for me to be his "knight in shinning armor" I gladly stepped up to the plate. Now that he has tested positive it's all just so real. I knew this would probably happen with the life he was leading (I too had a long run with meth, but never used it IV), but NEVER would I wish it on him or anyone else. It's hard to think about losing him, and the thought of my 4yr old child losing her uncle. I'm trying to stay positive, but it's hard when there's no one I can beat up to make this go away..lol. I was just hoping anyone can send some good advice or thoughts my way. It's been years since I've had a friend with HIV/AIDS. I lost a friend of mine over 8yrs ago from AIDS, and I know medicines have greatly changed in that time. If anyone has any insight or advice I would be so greatful.

You and your brother are in my prayers. Have faith and believe, also ask Our Lord for help and say a prayer every day. We, the people, always say that the result is not positive, remember that no matter how difficult the situation is, the last word is of Our Creator, therefore never give up and pray for the healing. God bless you for giving him all the love and support. Take care of yourself.
